چکیده

A fundus picture of posterior hyperplastic primary vitreous based on a study of 14 cases is described. Its definition, in spite of pleomorphic manifestations, could be useful for its differentiation from other conditions affecting children's eyes and presumed to be caused by parasitic, inflammatory, fibroplastic, or genetically transmitted processes.

Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous involving the anterior eye.

The imaging features of persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) affecting the posterior eye are well known. We recently encountered a patient with the anterior variant of PHPV who had MR imaging of the orbits. We present the clinical and imaging findings of this unusual entity and discuss the therapeutic options available for its management.

Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous.

Persistant hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) was described in detail as a clinical entity by Reese1 in 1955 in his Jackson Memorial Lecture. Goldberg in his 1997 Jackson Memorial Lecture2 renamed PHPV as persistent fetal vasculature (PFV). PHPV is a pathologic entity resulting from abnormal persistence of the fetal fibrovascular primitive stroma (hyaloid system) of the eye3,4 which should di...

Visual outcomes following lensectomy and vitrectomy for combined anterior and posterior persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous.

OBJECTIVE To determine the visual outcome after surgery for persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous using modern vitreoretinal techniques. DESIGN Retrospective medical record review during a 5-year period (June 1992 to June 1997). Information recorded for each patient included age, medical history, sex, results of preoperative ocular examination, age at diagnosis, procedure performed, intrao...

Histopathological examination of two cases of anterior staphyloma associated with Peters' anomaly and persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous.

AIMS To clarify the developmental mechanism and critical period for the uncommon complex of Peters' anomaly and persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV). METHODS Two eyes with Peters' anomaly and PHPV were histologically examined by serial section. One eye was enucleated at age 7 months (case 1) and the other at age 4 months (case 2) owing to severe anterior staphyloma. RESULTS In bo...

Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous: magnetic resonance imaging and clinical findings.

BACKGROUND This study presents magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of both the anterior and posterior types of persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) to facilitate the differential diagnosis from other intraocular abnormalities. METHODS Seventeen patients with PHPV who were evaluated using non-contrast and contrast-enhanced T1- and T2-weighted images were retrospectively review...
